Directions to 236 Foster St., Brighton, MA(617-254-6447)

From the West and/or from Rt. 128:

Mass Pike East to Exit 17, Newton/Watertown.
At Stop sign at end of the exit ramp, you'll see 4 traffic lights in a row.
Right at the 3rd light (sign "To Brighton").
Left at the first light onto Tremont St (there's another "To Brighton" sign)
Stay on Tremont St for about 1.5 miles at the 2nd light, the road bears slightly to the right and its name changes from Tremont St. to Washington St.
Take a right at the 4^th light onto Foster St.
#236 is a gray house on the left, just past a pale pink 2-story garden apartment complex. (Past St. John’s Seminary on the right and the Discalced Carmelite Friars and a big rock on the left.)

From the West via Route 9:

Route 9 East to Chestnut Hill Ave.
Left onto Chestnut Hill Ave. toward Cleveland Circle. (Chestnut Hill Ave. is the 4^th light after the light at Hammond St. approximately 1.2 miles from Hammond St. to Chestnut Hill Ave.)
Approximately 1 mile on Chestnut Hill Ave. take a left at the 4^th light onto Comm Ave. (Pass the Circle Cinema on the left and cross Beacon St./Cleveland Circle. Comm Ave is the next street on the left after Beacon St.)
On Comm Ave, you’ll see the Chestnut Hill Reservoir on your left.
Go approximately 0.2 mile and take a right onto Foster St. (the first right after the light at South St. There’s a U.S. Petroleum station on the left, on the other side of the T tracks.)
Once you’ve turned right onto Foster St., pass three streets on the right (Radnor Rd., Kirkwood St. and Rose Garden Circle).
#236 is the second house past Rose Garden Circle. It’s gray, and coming from this direction, you’ll see the statue of the Virgin Mary on the lawn.

From Cambridge

Take Western Ave. and turn left as soon as you cross the river (following the signs to the Mass Pike). Take a right at the first light onto Cambridge St. (toward Allston/Brighton).
Go basically straight on Cambridge St., which becomes Washington St., for about 2.15 miles.
Turn left at the 13^th light onto Foster St. (See below for landmarks, since it’s hard to keep track of so many lights.)
Once you’ve turned left onto Foster St., go about a ½ mile to #236. It’s a gray house on the left, just past a pale pink 2-story garden apartment complex. (You’ll pass St. John’s Seminary on the right and the Discalced Carmelite Friars and a big rock on the left.)

From downtown via Mass Pike West:

Take Mass Pike West to the first exit, Exit 20, Brighton/Cambridge.
After you pay the toll, stay to the left toward Allston/Brighton.
The exit curves around to the right and dumps you onto Cambridge St.
Go basically straight on Cambridge St., which becomes Washington St., for about 2.15 miles.
Turn left at the 13^th light onto Foster St. (See below for landmarks, since it’s hard to keep track of so many lights.)
Once you’ve turned left onto Foster St., go about a ½ mile to #236. It’s a gray house on the left, just past a pale pink 2-story garden apartment complex. (You’ll pass St. John’s Seminary on the right and the Discalced Carmelite Friars and a big rock on the left.)

From downtown via Storrow Drive:

Go toward Newton/Arlington.
Take the Central Square/Mass Pike exit (approximately 1.8 miles after the Kenmore/Fenway exit)
At the end of the exit ramp, take a left onto Cambridge St. (toward Mass Pike).
Go basically straight on Cambridge St., which becomes Washington St., for about 2.15 miles.
Turn left at the 15^th light onto Foster St. (See below for landmarks, since it’s hard to keep track of so many lights.)
Once you’ve turned left onto Foster St., go about a ½ mile to #236. It’s a gray house on the left, just past a pale pink 2-story garden apartment complex. (You’ll pass St. John’s Seminary on the right and the Discalced Carmelite Friars and a big rock on the left.)

Landmarks along Cambridge/Washington St.:

There’s a Merit gas station on the right at the 4^th light.
The Sport’s Depot is on the right at the 5^th light.
At the 6^th light, stay to the left of the Twin Donut (don’t take North Beacon St. which goes off to the right).
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is on the left just past the 11^th light.
Shortly after St. E’s, stay to the right toward Brighton Center. (The Brighton Police Station will be on your right.) At this point, Cambridge St. becomes Washington St.
The 14^th light is in the middle of Brighton Center at the intersection of Washington St. and Chestnut Hill Ave./Market St.
Take a left at the next (13^th) light onto Foster St.
Once you’ve turned left onto Foster St., go about a ½ mile to 236 Foster St. It’s a gray house on the left, just past a pale pink 2-story garden apartment complex. (You’ll pass St. John’s Seminary on the right and the Discalced Carmelite Friars and a big rock on the left.)

Important Parking Info:

Here’s the parking situation on Foster Street: Supposedly, Resident Only parking is enforced 24/7, but I think it’s unlikely that anyone would get a ticket on a Sunday night (and one of my downstairs neighbors has been parking on the street every night without a resident sticker and hasn’t gotten one). But I’d feel terrible if anyone was ticketed. So if you want to play it safe, there’s guest parking on my side of the street in both directions from my house: (1) the first block in from Comm Ave and (2) toward Washington St., past an apartment complex (Pama Gardens), a new condominium complex (Blessed Peter Faber Jesuit Community), and the first section of a chain-link fence. The two locations are about equidistant from my house but spots are more likely to be available toward Washington St. I’ll park on the street, so whoever arrives first can park in my driveway. (Pull all the way up to the garage on the left side.)

Also, there are two new landmarks: The gas station on Comm Ave. that used to be a US Petroleum station is now Sunoco, and what used to be an Exxon station on the corner of Washington St. & Foster St. is now Naked Pizza.
